Born in Genoa (Italy) on 30th September 1955, she has a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Genoa (1979) and a degree in Psychology from the University of Turin (1996). She later specialised in Ericksonian Psychotherapy at the AMISI school in Milan.
She worked as a System Analyst for the Control Data Corporation from July 1980 to February 1982.
She has worked for the National Research Council since March 1982.
She is currently a Head Researcher at the IEIIT (Institute of Electronics, Informatics and Telecommunications).
After having undertaken research on models of interaction between electromagnetic fields and biological material, she has, since the 80s, been studying the characteristics of complex and chaotic systems, learning and epigenetic robotics.
She has authored over 140 publications on these topics.
She has headed her Institute’s participation in various national and international projects. These include, among others: NEURONET [Network of Excellence on Artificial Neural Networks] EC Project; AICANN [Analog Integrated Circuits for Artificial Neural Networks] Bilateral Project with the CNRS and the Université Paris XI (Orsay) (1994-1995); COMETT [Artificial Neural Networks and signal processing] EC Project for education (1993-1994); EC IST - 11908 PLAY2 Project (1998-2001); EC IST-2000-29225 SIGNAL Project (2000-2004).
She has been part of the nEUro-IT (NeuroInformatics-Information Technology) Network and International LOEF Project for the reconstruction of a spoken language at risk of extinction: Fang since 2000 and 2007 respectively.
