Thanks to this innovative policy, the City of Venice will be covered by 10.000 km of fibre optic cables, owned by the Municipality, in order to improve the network access of citizens, tourists and companies.
Moreover, the Municipality of Venice has promoted free network access for all citizens by scattering WIFI hot-spots over the Venetian area.
Thanks to this strategic use of Information Technology, the Municipality has planned, promoted, improved and developed tourism through the online sale of tourist services.
Venice is the first City in the world to foster and achieve an innovative web portal dedicated to the online sale of public services to tourists.
Since the 1st of February 2009, thousands of orders from visitors to the city have been passing through the //venice<connected web portal every day.
Michele Vianello has given a strong push to the re-organisation of the Municipality of Venice, adopting and applying the WEB 2.0 philosophy and developing new management philosophies and interactive relationships with citizens, which have been collectively termed “2.0 Administration”.
